Netflix has edited the controversial suicide scene from '13 Reasons Why' two years after the show originally premiered.

The move has also drawn support from a number of suicide-related organizations and industry professionals, including the American Association of Suicidology, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, the American School Counselor Association, Stanford's Dr. Helen Hsu, Mental Health America, Cedars-Sinai's Dr.

However, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings later went on to defend the show, saying,"It is controversial, but nobody has to watch it."

Netflix just mastered the fear of missing out. Now every single controversial stream will be soaked in revenue for fear that next year it won't be available in its collectible condition.

Aww too much for the snowflakes to handle, poor babies.

Blame movies, blame guns, blame everything but the truth. America has created a generation of kids who have no coping skills and are doomed for failure. And its parents and educators who are to blame. Suicide is just a form of them speaking out against societies failures.

Just another reason why I'll never subscribe to their 'service'

Its damage was already done. This show was responsible for a noted rise in teen suicides and suicide attempts. This show glorified suicide and should be removed from Netflix entirely.

A show about suicide edited a suicide scene. Jeez

Art used to be a tool of communication. Since free speech, art has become... mundane and stale. Why say something in a painting when one can saying in an opinion? It’ll take a few years, but he more you censor the better art will become.

And this is why you should buy DVD's. Companies can't alter footage once you own it on disk. Weak decision, tbh. It was honest and real and respected for that. As someone who has attempted suicide 2times in my life I believe it’s a huge mistake to alter it. Because it is that graphic & then some. People SHOULD look at it and be horrified. SuicidePrevention

Netflix Revises Controversial ’13 Reasons Why’ Suicide SceneShowrunner Brian Yorkey explains why Netflix is editing the controversial 13ReasonsWhy suicide scene: 'No one scene is more important than the life of the show, and its message that we must take better care of each other' Too late for many kids but better than nothing. You wanna do good by viewers, netflix ? TAKE 13ReasonsWhy OFF. It’s an unhealthy, hyperbolic, twisted way of looking at depression. There’s already so much misinformation out there on this topic! Supporting a show like this that romanticizes mental illness just makes it worse. But they'll keep the rape scenes?
