- Netflix Inc. is removing a controversial graphic scene from its popular young adult drama “13 Reasons Why”, which depicts a youth suicide, following advice from medical experts, the company said on its Twitter account early on Tuesday.

While critically acclaimed, the show has drawn criticism from groups including the Parents Television Council , which claim the show glorifies teen suicide. Suicides by young Americans rose by almost a third in the month following the 2017 streaming debut of the popular Netflix television series, a U.S. study found.

Why is everyone so goddamn sensitive now!!!!🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️

You absolutely should not be reporting this in those words . See the WHO guidelines . Which explicitly says Don't describe the method used. And Don't include details about the site or location. And Don't use language which sensationalises.

Isn’t this the show where she hid and watched a boy rape her friend, then later, not only attends that boy’s party, but stays after everyone else left, and gets in a hot tub with him? Suicide isn’t the only bad message, the whole thing sucked.

Pls do us all the favor: cancel the whole show it's a garbage

well good, cause why would anyone want to see that crap?

Nowadays, many scenes in the dramas and movies have been deleted by some kind of authority. The deleted one becomes very mediocre.

bravo

WTF man I did not complete the series yet

It is one of the most intense scenes I have ever seen. It's strange because from the beginning we know what's going to happen. Still, I was yelling at my screen saying 'no, don't do it'. Heartbreaking. Hard to watch, yes. The truth is ugly.

Cause problem solving has been reduced to YouTube influencers!

Now i HAVE to watch that scene

FROM SEASON 1? WOW. REALLY LATE EH? SOWOKE PROGRESSIVISMISTHEWORST

netflix Who are they protecting, exactly?

netflix Netflix fucked up with 13ReasonsWhy now trying to cover its tracks

netflix They were told countless times before to not show the graphic scene because of its harmful implications and did it anyway.

netflix The graphicness of that scene is what hit home for me. I disagree with removing it but what do I know?

Show must be finished at the end of the first season. Second season is boring. Also adolescents can really affect from this scene. But it's late for delete.

Totally disagree. This is art, no reality.

Does that mean the show 'The suicidal smokers' is not going ahead

Weak parenthood and lack of support network are the causes, not a broadcast.

How about just get rid of the whole show because it's trash that glamorizes suicide to depressed teens

Why? It's a show about suicide

it's... a little late for that. pretty sure everyone knows the scene in question. kids already killed themselves thanks to it. should've been edited or removed a lot sooner.

Netflix to Remove Controversial Suicide Scene From ‘13 Reasons Why'A controversial scene from an episode of the first season of the popular teen drama is scheduled to be removed following a sustained controversy over whether the show increased the risk of teen suicide. And they start rolling out the 'Why was this removed' line. Seems a little late doesn't it. I watched the season and it was one of the most painful moments I've seen on television I can only imagine what someone feels when they're already suicidal The scene didn’t bother me. But they should have consulted with mental health professionals with regard to that scene before publishing the original cut of the season rather than feeling the need to go back and tamper with it.

Netflix Revises Controversial ’13 Reasons Why’ Suicide SceneShowrunner Brian Yorkey explains why Netflix is editing the controversial 13ReasonsWhy suicide scene: 'No one scene is more important than the life of the show, and its message that we must take better care of each other' Too late for many kids but better than nothing. You wanna do good by viewers, netflix ? TAKE 13ReasonsWhy OFF. It’s an unhealthy, hyperbolic, twisted way of looking at depression. There’s already so much misinformation out there on this topic! Supporting a show like this that romanticizes mental illness just makes it worse. But they'll keep the rape scenes?

Netflix Edits ’13 Reasons Why’ Suicide Scene Following ComplaintsNetflix has made the decision to edit a scene from the season one finale of 13 Reasons Why, which depicted one of the characters taking her life. The nearly three-minute scene showed actress Kather… On the one hand, I get it. On the other, I think that scene was so powerful, I hate it's being removed. Thank God for Pirate Bay, right? There’s so much violence in the world. And SO many suicides—many of which are preventable—so clearly the right thing to do is edit out a powerful scene in 13ReasonsWhy on Netflix

And this is why you should buy DVD's. Companies can't alter footage once you own it on disk. Weak decision, tbh. It was honest and real and respected for that. As someone who has attempted suicide 2times in my life I believe it’s a huge mistake to alter it. Because it is that graphic & then some. People SHOULD look at it and be horrified. SuicidePrevention
