The Alpine Community Center, at 1830 Alpine Blvd., welcomes local veterans to visit its Veterans Wall of Honor. The wall is a place to pay tribute to those who have served the country or are currently serving and offers a space for reflection. Community members can order a plaque for a military member or retired veteran. The Alpine Community Center is a nonprofit. Call 445-7330 or visit alpinecommunitycenter.com.

The Rancho Bernardo Republican Women group hosts mayoral candidate Larry Turner as the main speaker at a luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. June 21 at The Heights Country Club, 16066 Bernardo Heights Parkway. Turner served 23 years in the Marines and is currently the downtown San Diego Police Department community relations officer. Cost is $35 for a two-course lunch.

Highlights include surf lessons, a barbecue, a beach cleanup and a beach volleyball tournament along with community yoga, a speaker panel, a group run and a kids corner. Admission is free.
