It seems the Academy, like the rest of America, is still figuring out how to feel about the R-rated supervillain story

Phoenix acting was fine. But something is lacking, i dont feel the character of super vilain only saw him as a straight psycho. I dont see Joker as standalone movie stronger compare to he was in Batman. Weak motives to just kill ppl.

God, it was so boring with violence worthy of a PG-13 rating. Just read Alan Moore and Brian Bolland’s The Killing Joke if you want to know the Joker’s true story.

I doubt JoaqPhoenix will simply take the oscar since we all knew how much majority of TheAcademy members are conservative and extremely nationalist that would not understand the point of the movie and would get stuck in moral issues instead..

no God no. Why why’d u do that. He **cking deserves that Oscar.

Are Americans divided? Seems like a record opening weekend is a pretty clear sign of where they stand.

Phoenix’s performance was ok, but rather one/note. Nothing really moved from that opening laugh-cry to the close. And Phoenix never really gets out of his own persona as a nutty actor. That’s all. Watch Deniro in taxi driver.

I mean...I get the concerns but if you see it as entertainment purpose, it’s really one good movie. The hard work he puts into the character, that should be appreciated by the entertainment industry. Joker JoaquinPhoenix

The same as Disney’s maleficent, watch and move on

“America” isn’t divided over JOKER. This is a fake controversy cooked up by “woke” journalists and perpetually outraged social justice warriors.
