Los Tigres del Norte was the only act authorized by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation to film and record at Folsom last year for its 50th anniversary.
"We couldn't be more thrilled to be the first band in fifty years to film and record our documentary and album in the very same location where Johnny Cash held his historic concert,” the Mexican Norteño group said in an official statement. “Like Johnny Cash we knew that by simply going inside these prison walls, we could bring inspiration and hope to members of our own community in the midst of dark times, and bring a message that they are not forgotten.
In honor of Cash’s legacy, Los Tigres revealed that the first single from the live album will be “La Prision de Folsom,” their Spanish-language version of Cash’s classic song “Folsom Prison Blues.” The song was written by the group in collaboration with Johnny Cash’s daughter-in-law Ana Cristina Cash.will be available globally on Netflix and set for a September release during Hispanic Heritage Month.
