Raised in Sydney, Australia, Irie last month released her debut EP, together with a video for lead song “Bitter,” through a separate deal with Republic Records.
“Downtown added value from the moment Evie arrived in L.A.,” notes Carter in a joint statement unveiling the new deal. “Their level of commitment and creativity showed us right away this was the best partner for Evie.” Now aged just 16, Irie has made the move to the U.S., where in recent years she showcased her soulful pop talents at open mics in Nashville, New York and in Los Angeles, where her five-track EP was conceived and recorded.
