The musical, which is based on the book by Bob Martin and Chad Beguelin, centres around a the story of a high school student, Emma, who isn't allowed to bring her girlfriend along to prom at her school in a conservative part of Indiana.
I mean if you choose to overlook casting a straight man to play a character originated by a gay man or a white actor to play a role created by a WOC or the absurd talent of the Bway company who are about to be out of work sure omg Meryl whatever.
The Broadway company is outstanding. Such a shame that netflix audiences won't get to see Beth Leavel, Brooks Ashmanskas (giving one of the great musical comedy performances of the past 40 years), Caitlin Kinnunen and their castmates repeating their performances.
