An effective treatment for severe depression, mood disorders and other mental illnesses still faces high rates of stigma and misunderstanding, despite moves to increase access to the therapy, the ACT's chief psychiatrist says.

Welcoming the news, chief psychiatrist Denise Riordan said the treatment's public perception had been tainted by popular culture.

This has clearly been paid for. Let's talk about how there is no rehabilitation or support for those lives destroyed by ECT. Psychiatry deny it, society get on board. The direct result of harm is traumatic brain Injury, my partner lives with it daily. Stop coerced Psychiatry.

It is possible that some young stutterers are being forced to have this. I am not saying that it does happen, but I would not be surprised.

Lifesaving my Arse! Brain frying is far more accurate! I’ve plenty of friends who’s lives have been ruined by shock treatment. & I’m yet to meet anyone who’s been “cured”, or had their lives improved by it. A barbaric practice that should’ve been banned decades ago!

Yes, I can still remember the old times when it was seen as a terrible practice, I think we need more education of this very touchy subject, it will help us understand better.

I’d like to see a fact check of the claim 60-70% felt they’d recovered from their illness after ECT. What other therapies did those patiwnts receive?
