The unnamed boy, believed to be from London, was airlifted to hospital in front of shocked classmates, but was later pronounced dead.

The 17-year old boy, who has yet to be named, was understood to be among a group of 50 pupils on a trip to West Wittering, a popular celebrity hotspot.

He was pulled from the water and rushed to hospital by airlift as other children looked on, visibly distressed, reports the Mirror.A spokesman for Sussex Police said in a statement that he was confirmed dead after arriving at the hospital.
