San Diegans can listen to live music, learn about Black history and support Black businesses and organizations over 11 days to commemorate Juneteenth. This year, there are various events planned across the San Diego County to observe June 19, a date chosen for annually celebrating the emancipation of enslaved people in the U.S. Juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021, and in 2023 the San Diego City Council voted to make June 19 a paid holiday for city workers.
