Australian Olympian Jana Pittman has admitted it hurts her that she never reached her full potential on the athletics track. Pittman won gold for Australia at two world championships and two Commonwealth Games, but was denied an Olympic medal, largely due to untimely injuries. She made her Olympic debut at Sydney 2000 as a 17-year-old but it wasn’t until the next cycle that she really hit her straps.

” Pittman’s longtime coach Jackie Byrnes passed away in May, an influential figure with whom she credits a large part of the success in her career. The mother-of-six said her nine-year-old daughter recently noticed she was not herself. “Emily, my eldest daughter, and I have started evening walks and she asked me about being a little sad,” Pittman said. “Then after quiet reflection she said, ‘Mum, you have won the greatest gold medal ever...
