A fan who was left paralysed when the lead singer of Aussie punk rock band Trophy Eyes stage-dived during a show in New York has spoken out about the ordeal. Bird Piche, 24, suffered the “catastrophic spinal cord injury” in the mosh pit on April 30 when frontman John Floreani reportedly leapt into the audience to crowd-surf, knocking Piche to the ground.
Sunrise newsreader Edwina Bartholomew speaks about fan injury at rock concert. The show was immediately stopped as Piche was taken to hospital. “When you hear about these types of injuries, they’re obviously very serious so I didn’t expect to have any recovery,” Piche told NBC News from her hospital bed. “It was like his body, and my neck. It was a crowd-surfing thing.” She said she has regained use of her arms and some leg function, but still does not have the full use of her hands and toes.
