A little boy has drowned in a suburban lagoon just metres away from his family in Melbourne’s southeast. Ali Aminzadah, four, was found unresponsive in the water of a lagoon on Lagoon Row, in Officer about 5pm on Sunday. He could not be revived and died at the scene. The little boy’s family, who were down from Swan Hill visiting relatives, told 7NEWS that Ali was playing outside a home when he ventured across the street.
footage shows Ali’s relatives searching for the missing boy. Neighbours walked past the lagoon for almost 30 minutes before the boy was found in the water. Given the state of the fence, which has gaps wide enough for a child to fit through, one neighbour told 7NEWS the boy’s drowning was an accident waiting to happen. “You quite often see kids around the lake,” Tammy Gauld said. “I really think council needs to look at fencing to see what they can do, put something better up than what is there.
