Drivers in Victoria can now carry their licences on their phone, following a successful trial in Ballarat last year. The state government started the rollout of the digital driving licences on Monday, with more than 4.5 million fully licensed Victorians now eligible to make the switch. The licences will feature a dynamic hologram and a timed QR code, with Victorians able to control what kind of personal information they want to share.
“Our Digital Driver Licences will make it easier for Victorians when they go about their day-to-day lives, whether that’s driving around, renting a car, collecting a parcel, or visiting a licensed venue,” Minister for Roads and Safety Melissa Horne said. Other digital government-issued cards like Working with Children Checks, seniors cards or fishing licences are also available in Victoria. Those with learners and probationary licences will be able to access their digital licence by 2025.
