Daniel Ricciardo has reached a milestone in his Hollywood journey, with his TV show about Formula One picked up after two years of work behind the scenes. The Australian F1 driver’s project is backed by the Disney-owned streaming service Hulu. ‘Downforce’ has now received a pilot order with Ricciardo confirmed as an executive producer.
Alec Berg, a TV veteran who wrote and produced for Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Alec Countee have been announced as writers and showrunners. Berg co-created Barry and was a key figure behind Silicon Valley while he has directed each of those shows as well as New Girl. Ricciardo’s move into TV comes with seven-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton named as a producer of Brad Pitt’s upcoming F1 movie, which began filming last year.
