An American woman was scammed out of $11,000 by a romance fraudster who was pretending to be Irish-based Def Leppard rock star Joe Elliot.
Deputies said the woman was texting the man she believed was the Def Leppard singer every day, and conversations eventually turned romantic.The fraudster then scammed her out of money by asking her to send him gift cards. This escalated to him obtaining her bank information and asking her to send money to people using various apps.
