The pilot of the ship that crashed into the Baltimore bridge did “everything that he could have done” to slow the vessel and keep it from drifting towards the structure. That’s according to the American Pilots Association about what unfolded on the Singapore-flagged container ship Dali in the moments leading up to the crash into the Francis Scott Key Bridge.
Tragic aftermath following Baltimore’s bridge collapse. “Just minutes before the bridge, there was a total blackout on the ship, meaning that the ship lost engine power and electrical power,” APA executive director and general counsel Clay Diamond told CNN. “It was a complete blackout.” At that point, according to Diamond, the pilot did “everything that he could have done” to both slow the ship down and to keep it from drifting to the right, towards the bridge.
