Paralympian Peter Daly joined Tommy in the studio, beginning the interview by explaining that, as a teenager, he was diagnosed with the rare hereditary condition called Leber’s Hereditary Optic Neuropathy.“I am legally blind,” the 33-year-old said. “I am a former Irish Paralympian who retired during the summer. During COVID I started delving into ultra endurance running.”
Peter said that despite being just a few feet from Tommy, he couldn’t see him at all. However, since he had vision up until he was 19, he has “context in how I navigate the world.”Peter revealed that initially after his diagnosis he did “all the good Irish stereotypes” and pushed the problem away. “I was a little lost and confused and I didn’t know what to do,” he explained, saying that he “didn’t know how to be visually impaired or blind.
One said: “Really enjoyed Peter Ryan on Tommy Tiernan Show tonight. Inspirational and a real Tipperary legend.”
