Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Little Shop of Horrors is, once more, in the process of getting a remake, and for it to succeed, it needs to keep one key element from the 1986 version. Back in 1960, the horror comedy The Little Shop of Horrors took the audience by surprise with its combination of dark comedy, farce, and horror, leading to its adaptation into an off-Broadway musical in 1982.
Part of the charm of Frank Oz’s version of Little Shop of Horrors is how Audrey II was brought to life. When Audrey II starts to wither, Seymour is desperate to find a way to bring her back and help her grow, and when he accidentally pricks his finger with a rose, he discovers that Audrey II needs human blood to thrive.
Although technology and CGI have evolved a lot since the 1986 adaptation of Little Shop of Horrors, the upcoming remake/reboot would benefit more from having a practical effects Audrey II than a CGI one. Using practical effects for Audrey II also helps the actors give more believable performances as they can properly interact with the plant rather than pretend it’s there as it will be added later in post-production.
