Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Little Shop of Horrors is getting a second movie reboot from Gremlins director Joe Dante and original producer Roger Corman. B-movie king Corman released the original low-budget quickie back in 1960, with the legendary Jack Nicholson as part of the cast. The Little Shop of Horrors then got a second life thanks to a stage musical adaptation and, in 1986, a movie version of that musical, starring Rick Moranis.
Evans’ reboot may have gone by the wayside, but another Little Shop of Horrors reboot project is now in the works as Little Shop of Halloween Horrors, with Gremlins director Dante at the helm and Corman himself returning to co-produce . Billed as a re-imagining that is meant to launch a franchise, the film was penned by Gremlins 2 writer Charles S. Haas.
Little Shop Of Halloween Horrors Could Be The Dante Comeback Fans Have Been Hoping For Dante began his career working for Little Shop of Horrors producer Corman, doing low-budget movies like Hollywood Boulevard and Piranha. Gremlins and its famously wild sequel Gremlins 2: The New Batch catapulted Dante to A-list director status, but he made only two movies in the 1990s and three in the 2000s, and hasn't directed a feature film since 2014's Burying the Ex.
Dante continues delighting fans with his Trailers From Hell web series, as well as his podcast "The Movies That Made Me," not to mention his many talking-head appearances on documentaries. But Dante devotees still long for the Gremlins director to get back in the movie game and pull off a proper comeback. Little Shop of Halloween Horrors could be the film that finally revives Dante as a movie director.
