A woman suffered multiple injuries when a plane her husband was flying unintentionally somersaulted and crashed into a Queensland backyard. The woman, aged in her 50s, was the only passenger of the light aircraft being flown by her husband, aged in his 40s, over the Sunshine Coast on Sunday morning.

It is believed he was bringing the plane to land on a grass strip at Cootharaba, a rural area north of Noosa, when a gust of wind caused him to lose control. “The light plane was coming into land on a private airstrip and ended up somersaulting and crashing into a tree,” RACQ LifeFlight Rescue’s Scott Reeman said. “It clipped a palm tree in a house yard while it was airborne and then cartwheeled end-to-end across the yard and clipped another tree.
