Police have provided an update after multiple people were killed in a fiery crash in regional Victoria overnight. A carload full of people were killed when their van spun out of control into a tree, bursting into flames in a paddock near Mansfield. Victoria Police Assistant Commission Glenn Weir told reporters that a passerby noticed a fire about 7.45am on Sunday. That driver then stopped to check the fire, before realising it was a car engulfed in flames.
He said initial investigations indicated that the car had lost control while driving north on Mansfield-Woods Point Road, before hitting an embankment and spinning out of control. The vehicle then burst into flames upon hitting a tree. “It’s going to be a complex investigation, disaster victim identification personnel are on scene along with the major collision investigation unit,” Weir said. The exact make and model of the vehicle is yet to be determined.
