JOHANNESBURG - MTN along with a host of other big-name sponsors announced withdrawals from themusic festival after a controversial tweet from singer Steve Hofmeyr re-surfaced on twitter."Sorry to offend but in my books Blacks were the architects of Apartheid. Go figure".
Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi thanked MTN, Dstv, and CocaCola for distancing themselves from the music event and warned car manufacturer Toyota, to continue their sponsorship at their own peril. The annual Afrikaans music festival features Hofmeyr as a headliner along with, Bok van Blerk, Bobby van Jaarsveld, and Elvis Blue among other performers.
South African Twitter users were not slow in expressing their condemnation of Hofmeyr's tweet and backed the call from Lesufi for big name companies to pull the plug on sponsorship at the Afrikaans music showpiece."Paralysed by load-shedding and interruptions. Breakfast in the dark. Even during the Afrikaans Is Groot concert. Thanks to the public for understanding."
Why punish the other performers though? Just kick steve off the bill
and yet he’s always invited by white Afrikaners in Namibia🤔
