The family of a man found dead in his Sydney apartment after complaining about a painful toothache have finally received answers about what happened to their loved one. Bradley Tucek first complained of a toothache on July 13, 2022. He told his mother he was “in absolute agony”, describing it as “the worst pain I’ve had in my life”. After visiting the dentist the following day, Tucek was told he had an infection, sent home with painkillers and booked in at a later date to have the tooth removed.
Valentine said her brother’s tooth infection was listed in the coroner’s report as a contributing factor to his death, but it was not caused by DKA. The coroner said: “An infection can cause an increase in certain hormones that work against the effects of insulin and contribute to diabetic ketoacidosis. “Infections are also more common and/or severe in patients with diabetes mellitus.
