Endorsement dating is on the rise, but That ’70s Show star Danny Masterson, a convicted rapist, proves the high risk of vouching for your “amazing friend”.

It’s the all-too familiar story you’ve most likely heard from a female friend when it comes to an unsuccessful dating experience.

The premise is relatively simple: a woman in the group will post some photos and basic info about their single male friend that they’re vouching for. The single and interested women within the group can comment on the post if they’re interested in being set up, and from there, the poster can put the singles in touch to organise a date; matchmaking mission complete.

There’s a pretty big fallacy in testifying for potential partners that society tends to glance over, and that’s the belief that because someone makes an excellent friend, they’ll be an ideal romantic partner. Sure, an individual can be a great mate, showcase support, laugh at your jokes and offer companionship. But the dynamics of a romantic relationship include so much more than that, and traits shown in one type of relationship never guarantees they will transfer to another.
