Thousands turned out for 'Rock the Block' one the last summertime signature events in Lake Zurich.

Kids could visit a face painter, among amenities for families. Food trucks lined Main Street, offering fare such as lobster and tacos. Corn on the cob was a popular walkable menu item to nosh on.Lake Zurich Mayor Tom Poynton estimated that more than 7,000 people attended Rock the Block. “It’s almost like a reunion of people that used to live here, that came back, that live in surrounding towns, it’s more of a giant reunion,” Poynton said. “This was one of the first things I did when I first got elected mayor in 2013.”Featured this year was a large outdoor weatherproof screen on Main Street that played back images of the stage from down the block.“Clearly, thank you,” Poynton said in a shout out to volunteers.

Revving up the energy on the stage as the entertainment opener was country singer and songwriter Kelly Daniels, of Nashville, Tennessee. Daniels is originally from Palos Hills.
