Now, per The Numbers, Barbie's box office total in North America has just passed $620.7 million, surpassing Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi's domestic total of $620.2 million. This means Gerwig's film now stands as the 12th highest-grossing movie of all time domestically. Barbie also remains a draw internationally with $782.2 million earned, bringing its worldwide total to a staggering $1.403 billion.
Now, however, almost two months after its release, it's only natural that Barbie's box office starts to slow down. The movie dropped to the fifth spot this past weekend due to stiff competition from the likes of The Nun II and The Equalizer 3. With the impending release of Kenneth Branagh's A Haunting in Venice on September 15, it's very likely that Barbie will finally be kicked out of the top five this coming weekend.
With Barbie's VOD release date set for September 12, the availability of the movie on home-viewing platforms will likely also have an impact on its box office. That being said, Barbie is still set to surpass The Avengers's domestic total of $623.6 in the next week or two, and the movie could potentially end up beating Frozen II's worldwide total of $1.454 billion when all is said and done. In any case, Barbie has been an undeniable success for Warner Bros.
