Sinead O'Connor dead aged 56 as iconic singer dies a year after her son

Sinead's cause of death has not yet been confirmed.

Her mental health issues began to come to light when she opened up on The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2007 that she’d been diagnosed with bipolar disorder four years earlier. She told the host of the popular chat show that she had attempted suicide on her 33rd birthday in 1999. This comes a year after the mother-of-four's son Shane, 17, took his own life in January 2022 after escaping hospital while on suicide watch.

“We were one soul in two halves. He was the only person who ever loved me unconditionally. I am lost in the bardo without him.”
