A pop-up skate park and a graffiti wall will be part of Saturday night’s Sk8 Jam, the city of Elgin’s first concert of the summer season, and a celebration of skateboard culture.

The free gathering in downtown Festival Park combines live musical acts with a festival atmosphere featuring family-friendly activities and food trucks.It’s a new concept the city is trying this year, Director of Cultural Arts and Special Events Amanda Harris said.

“The hope is that this event will resonate with both Elgin residents and those outside of Elgin,” she said. Food trucks Woogie Rolls, Happy Lobster and Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream Truck will be part of the 5 to 10 p.m. event.
