Marvel is pumping the brakes once again on “Blade.” Producers, however, are still planning to film some of the movie in Cleveland at some point.

Preproduction on the project shut down this week due to the ongoing strike by members of the Writers Guild of America,wrote on Friday. Cameras had been scheduled to begin rolling in Atlanta next month. This is the second time the vampire hunter reboot starring Mahershala Ali has been put on pause. Originally slated for a November release, the film was pushed back to late summer 2024 after director Bassam Tariq left due to creative differences last October. His abrupt departure came a month before crews were scheduled to spend nine days in Cleveland shooting scenes for the movie.

Since then, director Yann Demange, who shot his 2017 film “White Boy Rick” in Cleveland, was hired to take over the project, which also stars Aaron Pierre, Delroy Lindo and Mia Goth. More recently, “True Detective” creator Nic Pizzolatto was brought on board to rework the script. Still, despite those changes and this latest delay, the filmmakers anticipate shooting part of the movie in Cleveland after the strike is resolved, a source close to the production told
