Chris Pine may have once been shy about singing onscreen, but he's pleased as punch to play a music-loving bard in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. He's shown off his action skills often for superhero films like Wonder Woman and dived into sci-fi adventure with the Star Trek franchise, but it wasn't until 2014's Into The Woods that the world at large learned how well he could sing.
While at SXSW to promote Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Pine told Screen Rant why the role of a bard was especially appealing to him. Despite the new fantasy film focusing on action, like many of his recent roles, the role of Edgin relies on his wit and charm to get by rather than his physical strength or fighting ability.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY They kind of hooked me when they said that my special power is playing the lute and entertaining. I thought that was something I could figure out; meant less prep days and [fewer] days in the gym. And I was fine with that.
He may not have a full-length song like Into the Woods, but reviews and reactions have already noted how much fun Pine is having as Elgin. Between his distracting musical abilities, Michelle Rodriguez's brute strength, Page's swordsmanship, Justice Smith's sorcery, and Sophia Lillis' shapeshifting, the cast creates a well-rounded party that would fulfill any Dungeon Master's hopes.
