The beloved Splash Mountain ride closed for good Monday, after Disney announced in 2020 that the ride at both Disneyland in California and Disney World in Florida would be redesigned to feature characters from the animated movie “The Princess and the Frog”

It was first announced more than two years ago that the ride would close, after renewed calls for Disney to strip away the “Song of the South” theme from Splash Mountain. The source material has been deemed racist by many even though the ride itself does not have any racist elements.

Disney said the project follows the company’s approach to “plussing” or retheming attractions in order to make them more relevant and to elevate the guest experience. “With this longstanding history of updating attractions and adding new magic, the retheming of Splash Mountain is of particular importance today,” Disney previously said in a statement. “The new concept is inclusive – one that all of our guests can connect with and be inspired by, and it speaks to the diversity of the millions of people who visit our parks each year.”

Pitty, I never went to Disney before and years ago wanted to go when they got the SW ip. Now that it's become Groomerland I will die before I give them a penny to go into their sexual fantasy land for kids.

Disney World's Splash Mountain runs dry, as the iconic ride closes for goodSunday was the last day for the ride in the Florida park. Controversy surrounded the ride, based on the 1946 film Song of the South and its racist themes. It will relaunch as Tiana's Bayou Adventure. Politics aside, the animatronics in that ride are way old. I can understand where some people are coming from. For me, Splash Mountain was one of the 1st new rides I ever got to experience. I'll be a little sad to see it go, but the ride will still there, just with a different coat of paint.
