It had been in operation since 1992.

Every little thing is a culture war these days. On a different timeline, old rides would be replaced by new rides and nobody would care as long as the rides were cool.
I can understand where some people are coming from. For me, Splash Mountain was one of the 1st new rides I ever got to experience. I'll be a little sad to see it go, but the ride will still there, just with a different coat of paint.
Politics aside, the animatronics in that ride are way old.
