Sundance is one of the few major film festivals to hit — and surpass — the “5050×2020” gender parity pledge announced at Cannes in 2016, though it’s been far ahead of the curve on that front for years: A decade earlier, in 2013, Sundance presented a U.S. Dramatic Competition lineup in which half the films were directed by women.
