'Whatever way he put his charisma into songs, it generated that magic'

Musician Adrian Dolan has opened up about growing up “in a house full of music” — and what it is about his uncle Joe Dolan’s music that continues to hit the right note with fans.

“It has been a good time playing with Joe in the band and seeing all of the different countries while on tour. But all good things come to an end.The Remembering Joe 15th Anniversary Tour kicks off on December 28 at the The Landmark Hotel in Carrick-on-Shannon, before visiting the University Concert Hall in Limerick, the Tullamore Court Hotel in Offaly, the Town Hall Theatre in Galway and the Glencarn Hotel Castleblayney in Monaghan.

“Basically, what we have is a show to celebrate all of those years of music — from the ‘60s right up to the ‘90s. Joe had hits in five consecutive decades and we’ll be playing those songs on the night. “For the fans, as well, to hear those Joe Dolan songs again and played with that Joe Dolan sound with the band and the singers [is amazing]. We have an array of singers, because of Joe’s voice — he had a voice that was not like any other in Ireland. It was more of a continental type voice. He could sing quite low in range and he could sign quite high in range.

“And then to have people in the audience, then, loving the songs that Joe was singing. I could see that whatever Joe had, he added that bit of sparkle to anything that he did. Especially with my songs, he added his own Joe factor to them.” “For me, on that night, to see the older generation singing Disco 2000 and the younger generation that were there singing Joe’s older hits like The Answer to Everything and Good Looking Woman, it was exciting because suddenly he’d tapped into another audience.

“He had the kind of voice that you would hear when you were on your holidays — and it was a sound that, I don’t know, it just resonates with people. It is a happy-go-lucky sound.
