Walt Disney Animation Studios/Screenshot by NPRDisney introduces its first plus-sized heroine in its new short filmDisney, a company that's both perpetually groundbreaking and perennially behind the times, revealed its first plus-sized heroine last month, leaving fans both frustrated and inspired.
The glass cracks and Bianca is swiftly sucked into a dark and ominous space, where she must dance without inhibition to successfully battle her reflection., says she based the film on her own experiences with body image. "I feel like I'm a very body positive person in principle. But when it's on a personal level, it's a lot harder to be body positive," she says in an interview that airs as part of the episode.
Obese people tend to die younger and end up costing less medically over a lifetime according to a government study.
I promise you this will backfire
Surprised some folks are having a difficult time with this. Have they not seen a “plus-sized” character in real life? Maybe watch it. It’s good.
Fat kills.
Is it the uncanny valley? Is it spreading bad messages about health? Is it cause it’s really boring? How about all 3
How can anyone give a shit about a fat cartoon right now?
Why, they don’t think overweight kids exist who want to be ballerinas and that dance is only reserved for a certain body type? What a narrow way of thinking. 🙄 If you don’t like it, then don’t watch the cartoon.
Good grief- big deal he’s a fat kid. Eat less, exercise more & you’ll drop a few lbs. you’ll feel better be healthier. And life will be fine.
NPR went full NPR. Never go full NPR.
Disneys Precious
I don’t think Disney should imply its ok for young people to be obese, there is not one doctor that would ever say that it’s ok to be obese. It’s a terrible thing that is going on with the youth of today and we should not say it’s ok.
Of course they aren't, democracy is crumbling around us and they bitching about a fucking cartoon.
Big girls aren't ballerinas.
People are upset about a 2 minute animated short? Really?
This fat denial sure takes a lot of work. Can't change what you don't acknowledge.
Her nemesis is type 2 diabetes
Unhealthy.
I sure would love to see something from Disney about an overweight person with weight related health issues work hard to lose the weight and become healthier, making choices to help become healthier. Maybe teach kids that they can overcome these things by making good choices.
Normalizing obesity in America is not productive.
Oh dear. There will be a battalion of Biancas worldwide cursing Disney’s choice of name, for starters.
I don't care what the animated characters look like so long as there's a catchy soundtrack and the voice acting isn't annoying.
For the most part, being overweight is unhealthy and leads to a short life span, never found any evidence supporting the contrary
Sadly, it won't change the many years of programming, isn't it?
Yeah cuz some fans are fatphobic.
Spoiler alert, 90% of the people making comments in this thread did not read the article or have not seen the animated short…
she looks a lot like my ex. which I kind of hate, but it's not her looks that I hate.
Huge victory for the sugar industry
Obesity shouldn’t be acceptable. It’s horribly unhealthy.
Those who can’t deal with this new Disney character, or feel her body image plight, should look in the mirror and say to him/herself: “I AM THE PROBLEM!” Then, make a drastic change.
* fat-sized heroine
Weird. We thought everyone was 'elated' Thanks alot CNN
There ya go. Encourage kids/adults to eat themselves into an early grave because it's cool and fashionable. You wonder why covid killed so many?
Kids aren't supposed to look like that if they are healthy but the FDA doesn't really give a shit about Americans what's why USA allows ingredients that are banned in other countries. Drink your GMO corn syrup and hydrogenated oil baby formula.
I just don't like the ending...her alone with her cats and diabetes.
The Zeal Corporation agrees. It is wrong to give anyone the impression that it is alright for them to exist.
Way to go Disney..
Both fat-shaming and fat-promoting are wrong.
We love to see it🖤
I have mixed feelings about this . Don’t make fun of imperfect people , but this seems to encourage and normalize bad health/food habits too.
Looks like Trump 🤔
No one asked for this
Exercise is triggering apparently
Well yah.
