Also speaking-up is another important player in the franchise’s history, but Jayme wants to keep the identity of that person secret until the film premieres at the Vancouver International Film Festival on Oct. 1. The Grizzlie Truth is one of 237 films from 70 countries at this year’s VIFF from Sept. 29 to Oct. 9.
“She has remarkable access to former players and former management, to other superfans like herself, but what I think it does also is examine how a sports team informs the identity of a city and kind of builds community and builds family bonds as well. Then it examines how that presence is just sort of wrested from a community as well,” said VIFF director of programming Curtis Woloschuk.
“I think we were there for three hours, and it was so cathartic,” said Jayme about the filming of the meeting. “If you think about it the Grizzlies kind of left town and there really has been no chance for fans to kind of celebrate or remember them so it was just very special.” Vancouver filmmaker Kat Jayme is seen here with former NBA player Chris King.
