Police suspect a woman was attempting to retrieve her phone on the tracks of a rollercoaster ride at the Royal Melbourne Show before she was struck in front of horrified families who screamed for help.

Show-goers called for help after hearing loud screams near the tracks where emergency services raced to find the woman critically injured at the Rebel Coaster ride.

Offer ends 31 October, 2022 “It appears, at this early stage, the woman, ­believed aged in her 20s, may have walked on and entered the track to try and retrieve a dropped phone before she was hit by a rollercoaster ­carriage, about 5.45pm," Victoria Police said in a statement."Detectives from the Yarra Crime Investigation Unit are attending the scene and will work with WorkSafe to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A statement released by the Melbourne Royal Show confirmed:"There was a reported injury on the Rebel Coaster ride.”
