A video obtained by CTV News Toronto shows the man carrying what seems to be an air rifle while walking on the sidewalk. That was at 12:55 p.m.
"The man was struck, and the man was pronounced deceased at the scene. At this time, the SIU has not yet identified the man," SIU spokesperson Kristy Denette said yesterday. Witnesses outside described hearing three gunshots in quick succession and officers attempting CPR on the man afterwards.
A 27 year old man who was given sub par mental health help and let out of camh too soon was killed. I hope toronto you learn from this and do better because we all loved him so dearly and he hurt no one. This could be your friend or brother one day. Do better.

After the recent Texas school shooting, if someone think it's funny to carry a gun around, they will quickly learn otherwise. Cops are probably on high alert for copy cat events.
So what if it was just a pellet gun? You still don't point it a people.. you don't take it for walk at an elementary school and menace the children in side.. there is no funny here, there is no joke.. it's just a desperate situation for everyone including the cops.

I stand w the police officers. Being in law enforcement they have to make tough calls and this man was walking around w something that looked like a rifle near an elementary schools TWO days after a masa shooting.
I am happy our police did their job! I’m a parent and I know what it’s like to hear my child’s school has gone into lockdown. If the US police had acted as quickly as the Toronto police then many lives may have been saved. They should be applauded not ridiculed or judged.

Although regrettable, I don't think the Police had a choice, given the situation, and that a school with young students was nearby. Why was the man carrying any gun which resembled a rifle in public and near a school? I assume he refused to comply with the orders of the police.
With what seems to be a firearm. We now know it was an air rifle but that's not evident in the video. More fact less speculation.
I have one small question. How is it that trained police can mis-identify the weapon? The call to use deadly force seems, on the surface, a little steep. And it really all hinges on identification of the weapon. Images i have seen on here do make it difficult to tell.
