Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa will take over the role of The Doctor from Jodie Whittaker - making him the 14th Doctor

Gatwa starred as Eric Effiong in Netflix's Sex Education, a role for which he won a Scottish BaftaThe 29-year-old will become the 14th Doctor afterGatwa, a Scottish actor who was born in Rwanda, starred as Eric Effiong in Netflix's Sex Education, a role for which he won a Scottish Bafta in the actor category.

"There aren't quite the words to describe how I'm feeling. A mix of deeply honoured, beyond excited and, of course, a little bit scared. This role and show means so much to so many around the world, including myself, and each one of my incredibly talented predecessors has handled that unique responsibility and privilege with the utmost care," he said.

"I will endeavour my upmost to do the same. Russell T Davies is almost as iconic as the Doctor himself and being able to work with him is a dream come true. His writing is dynamic, exciting, incredibly intelligent and fizzing with danger."An actor's metaphorical playground. The entire team have been so welcoming and truly give their hearts to the show.

"And so as much as it's daunting, I'm aware I'm joining a really supportive family. Unlike the Doctor, I may only have one heart but I am giving it all to this show."

Ooooh, a new doctor? Haven't watch since Matt Smith, a Scottish dude? And Russell T Davis Is back! What does the comments say? :

🍷very interesting indeed

SEE THE LEFTY BBC HAVE TICKED QUITE A FEW BOXES THERE ☑️

Eeeeewwww a n*gger doctor

Amazing actor!

That's me done with doctor who. Another box ticked.

One more ethnically English role played by someone who is not ethnically English. Imagine my surprise.

He might be a good actor but it’s obviously another box ticked!!

Haven’t watched it since Peter Davison was the doctor I didn’t realise it was still running oh well good luck to the new doctor anyway

I just hope his run has better writing that Whittaker's second series. Also glad he's Scottish. I don't care if the character changes race or gender, that still fits the character. But if The Doctor wasn't English or Scottish? That'd be a travesty.

Amazing news. Will actually make the effort to watch it now!!!

Excellent choice - Dunfermline boy too!

this is fine because Who is a multidimensional character ,could be anyone

14th and Last

Not heard of him but very predictable by the BBC

Revolting

Yawn. This show is fundamentally dumb woke drivel. The foppish Scots bloke was the last barely good Doctor.

Doctor Who: Ncuti Gatwa to replace Jodie Whittaker, BBC announcesSex Education star will be first black actor to play role full-time when Russell T Davies returns to run show in 2023 If the way the BBC is approaching Doctor Who is the same, then changing the actor will have no affect. Stop beating people over the head with your misguided illogical political ideology. Love him in Sex Education, he’s going to be so great! That'll please the inclusion arm of the beeb but may alienate fans, tick box selection can have a counter effect, Jody Whittaker's Dr. was very unpopular, time will tell if audiences are tired of virtue signalling.
