The star of RTE drama Smother hit the milestone birthday back in October and views ageing as a blessing.
Dervla told RSVP Magazine: “I’m probably in complete denial over turning 50, but I’m just having a blast. Speaking about the pressures of ageing the public eye, the talented actress continued: “We've been under the tyranny of a society that lambasts women for having grey hair and wrinkles. When it comes to landing roles in a fickle industry, the mum-of-two doesn’t allow herself to be consumed by pressure and prefers to go with the flow rather than plan for the future.“I’ve always had a desire to keep working with great people and try to get the opportunity to work with great scripts, but you know, there’s 100,000 other brilliant, more famous, talented actresses that you can choose from.
Teasing what fans can expect from Val this time round, Dervla said: “You can expect a show that has grown in confidence. It is faster, it is dynamic and it has an energy that is different to the first series.” “Everyone is adjusting to this new family member and it creates a tremendous conflict because her girls Jenny, Anna and Grace, are so privileged and so secure, so to have this other stepbrother come in really shakes everything up. It’s a terrible moment for my character.
