In a competitive situation, Universal Pictures has optioned the rights to the film from Sentient.first broke the news that Sentient had acquired control of the rights in a highly competitive situation this past April from FilmSharks owned The Remake Co. and VideoMercury. Sentient made the deal with FilmSharks CEO Guido Rud and Europe’s top Football club Atletico Madrid President Enrique Cerezo’s Video Mercury. Cerezo originally acquired the film rights when he purchased Sogecine.
Sentient’s Renee Tab and Christopher Tuffin will produce alongside Aliwen Entertainment’s Lucas Akoskin. Cerezo will executive produce alongside Rud and Miller Way’s Michael and Jeeny Miller. Senior Vice President of Production Sara Scott will oversee the project on behalf of Universal. The original film starred Kidman and became a surprise summer hit by grossing more then $200 million at the worldwide box-office. Similar to, the film is not only known for scarring audiences all summer but delivering one of the all-time great twist endings.
At this time it is unknown how much this film will take from the original storyline. Insider say execs are currently meeting with writers to adapt the script.with Jessica Chastain and Edgar Ramirez attached, action-thriller

Morons. This movie is perfection. If it’s a sequel, that’s something different. But a remake? Jesus. There should a rule in Hollywood: 50 years have to pass before a remake can be considered.

Probably one of the worst remake ideas ever... This was a well made , fairly recently released gothic period horror. None of those things need any updation. Can’t the new audience check out the 2001 original ? Is it that outdated?
