Sarah L'Estrange, producer of ABC RN's The Book Show, says Tu is amongst a group of emerging Australian novelists who are writing about young women negotiating the challenges of contemporary life — citing Victoria Hannan, Georgia Young and Laura McPhee-Browne.
Her novel also interrogates the reverence for the classical music 'canon' — dominated by Mozart, Beethoven, Bach etc. "Classical music just seems to be in its own bubble where they don't have to change … I sort of hate the way classical music hasn't evolved."Tu says her debut novel was influenced by Peter Oswald's biography Glenn Gould: The Ecstasy and Tragedy of Genius."A lot of them just struggle with a lot of mental illness, and they crumble because they didn't have a chance to grow as human beings," Tu says.
Tu says that many friends and family, after reading her book, opened up to her about their sex lives.
Well blame the ABC . They always stereotype races in their programs.
Every ABC article comment section is just old people and bots complaining about “reverse racism” lmao like clockwork
Sounds like she’s experienced paranoid delusions, rather than any racism.
Whoever thought that?
LMAO Jess_Tu2 WTF does a grown woman care so much what other people think. Pathetic.
I've seen a lot of J horror that says otherwise.......
Hi. Jessie, instrumental music, without a singers mournful accompaniment, is definitely in a 🗯 bubble. Impoverished family units 🆚 affluent units. Our multicultural education, answers to same dictatorial antiscripturist supremacy. Spectrum of weaponized sexual declinations.
Anything that upsets white racists is worth a look. 👍
Asian women are loud n slutty good for a laugh, smart n bitchy or maybe it's just the girls I know. In a bygone era in orientalist film & literature asian female tropes were the exotic, the femme fatale, dangerous but beautiful.
Load of bollocks. Hundreds of thousands of Asian kids around the world play classical music yet its racist. Another spoilt brat looking to make $$$.
How does she know how others see her? She is the one doing the stereotyping. If there wasn’t a theme of white racism against Asians in this book, would the ABC be so keen to promote it?
Generation oppressed!
We see Changi, not a good girl.
Lol so it's the whities fault again..why don't these people carry their own chalk around..theyre so victimised 🙄
Boooooring!
What a load of self indulgent crap.
