HBO Max is temporarily pulling “Gone With the Wind” from its movie library — and frankly, many people on social media do give a damn.

But this has fired up backlash from viewers for a variety of reasons, leading “Gone With the Wind” and its abbreviation “GWTW” to trend on Twitter TWTR, -2.17% and to top Google GOOG, +0.66% searches on Wednesday morning. iframe.twitter-tweet { width: 100% !important; } iframe.twitter-tweet { width: 100% !important; } And that’s led still others to accuse these critics in turn of appropriating McDaniel’s achievement — and to remind them that the actress wasn’t even allowed to sit at the same table as her white co-stars at the Oscars because of the color of her skin.

First and foremost, “We are having a much deeper conversation about race right now,” she told MarketWatch. “The different responses show the different levels of understanding of racism in the U.S.”

I feel like the media and HBO has somehow lost the thread: rewriting history does not fix what is a problem today. Evolving is not rewriting history, evolving is acknowledging history and not repeating it.

Large media companies like HBO parent Warner Media, as well as your parent company, Dow Jones, shouldn't control what information, entertainment, art, news, speech, we are permitted to read, watch, look at, listen to, etc. MainstreamMedia is a major problem in this country.
