David Fernández, a 26-year-old from Santiago, Chile, has been adopting stray dogs living in harsh conditions and giving them a little TLC.
Where many would steer clear of street animals for fear of disease or germs, David takes them in and answers calls from fellow Chileans to rescue them. The abandoned pets are basically unrecognisable by the time they are rehomed. One of the dogs is Begona who was found wasting away at a landfill site. Salvador is another who grew up in a dangerous part of the city.
David tells Metro.co.uk: ‘Salvador was very afraid and a little bit aggressive, physically. He had skin infections, fungus, and malnutrition.David adds that it can take months to rehabilitate some of the animals at his shelter. ‘Esperenza has had huge psychological damage, had a lot of distrust, was malnourished, cold, broken. It took me six months to get her back. Here are some others whose lives were totally transformed:David then helps to find each doggo a forever home Sadly David has lost touch with a few of the rehomed pets Look how healthy he looks
