Two years ago, Natalie Ratabesi launched TRE as a side gig. She already had a full-time job designing for a contemporary brand in Los Angeles, the city she calls home. In the interim, TRE has become Ratabesi’s sole focus thanks to a new investor. At a pre-fall appointment, she said she’s now on the hunt for a CEO; 2020 could shape up to be a big year for her.
On the fashion front, the news was Ratabesi’s big denim push. Working with an L.A. expert, she upcycled and reworked vintage denim into many different styles, patch-working some, shredding others, and adding oversize grommets to waistbands. “When it comes down to supply, there’s so much denim, especially in America, there’s really no reason to weave new stuff,” she said.
