Services Australia released a warning to Centrelink recipients on Monday, noting that those who have already lodged their tax returns may need to amend them. It said Centrelink payment summaries for some recipients may have been sent out just before changes were made to their payments — and those affected by a last-minute change will be alerted. “If you get a letter from us, you might need to amend your tax return if you’ve already lodged it,” Services Australia said.
That letter could be physical, or sitting digitally in a recipients’ myGov inbox — but recipients who receive their letters physically are urged to check that their mailing addresses are up-to-date.’ “The letter will tell you what payment summary detail changed and the tax year it’s for.” Taxpayers who have already lodged their tax returns will need to resubmit them, ensuring that any pre-filled information in ATO myTax matches the changes outlined in the letter, changing it to match if not.
