In news that isn’t all that surprising but not any less maddening, Aladdin star Mean Massoud recently revealed he hasn’t had a single audition since playing the iconic role in the billion-dollar Disney blockbuster.
Massoud beat out 2,000 other actors for the role, for a movie that had a $183-million budget and pulled in over $1 billion at the box office . In fact, it’s co-star Will Smith’s most successful film to date. He explained that his Middle Eastern background has worked against him in Hollywood, the same industry that wanted to hire Julia Roberts to play Harriet Tubman. Consider any other young, handsome star of a major blockbuster — Tom Holland, Ansel Elgort, Liam Hemsworth, Miles Teller — and how their careers skyrocketed soon after.
