“I want people to know that it’s not always dandelions and roses when you’re doing something like 'Aladdin.'' Mena Massoud opens up about the struggles he has encounter in his career after starring in Aladdin

, published Tuesday. “I want people to know that it’s not always dandelions and roses when you’re doing something like. ‘He must have made millions. He must be getting all these offers.’ It’s none of those things. I haven’t had a single audition sinceMassoud famously beat out 2,000 other actors to land the titular character in the Disney live-action remake, which has grossed $1.05 billion at the box office.

The Egyptian-born Canadian actor has been vocal about his previous struggles to avoid playing terrorist characters as a Middle Eastern actor in Hollywood and his early challenges as an actor in Canada. "Even though I'm very fortunate and grateful to have played Aladdin, there were still four, five casting directors who never gave me a shot in Toronto. They didn't give me the time of day.

Damn the struggle is real for everyone

While I don't think he is a good actor and that shud be the sole reason for him not getting parts, I do believe that had this been a Black actor, there would have been a whole movement birthed around it. Why are some minorities more privileged than others.

Get new agents and cancel the pity party

look at all the shitty comments w WHITE FACES. like a white dude would’ve struggled so hard to just get the auditions even after a billion dollar movie. he would’ve gotten thousands calls only if he were white. y’all being passive aggressive racist scumbags and not get the point

Maybe you’re just not that good 🤷‍♀️

We don't make terrorist movies and Hollywood thinks that's his only role because Hollywood is filled with racist haters. You'd think Will Smith would help. You'd think

Disney says could you step aside we want to do a spin off with a white character in the movie you was a lead in. Ridiculous

He’s not getting any work? Is Hollywood racist? Say it ain’t so...!

... as a new Hulu show with Mena in a big role comes out (Reprisal), he complains about not getting roles.. sheesh.

Why do people thinks ANYONE deserves ANYTHING? Jesus...

From Disney Prince to Drama king ...... dude it ain’t that serious , you’re going to be in the sequel to Aladdin as Aladdin good lord or just ask ur agent or demand more roles to your agent.

He wasn’t very good in Aladdin

Work on your brand, Mena. No one likes the “woe is me” guy. Get a new agent. Crying get’s nothing done.

He's probably expecting to play the handsome leading man which he doesn't fit

Come on give the dude chances

If this was a black actor complaining about this everyone would have their back. To the point of probably making Robin black. I don't get why when other ethnicities complain they get criticized.

Are we all guaranteed a job these days

This again? He needs a better agent.

Eh, no Aladdin 2?

Mena deserves better

It might be because his acting is bad....

*whispers* he wasn't very good ... RT : 'I’m kind of tired of staying quiet about it.' Mena Massoud admits he hasn't had an audition since Aladdin THRNews

I thought he was great. Hollywood is crazy.

Also even though their billing was different Naomi Scott was in three things this year so...

Well at least his publicist is trying with stuff like this but he'd better start rethinking his management and agency otherwise it's going to be even bleaker.

He may want to consider getting a different agent.

Maybe your not good

He still did not fits as Aladdin 😕

Needy bitch great actors have gone years without opportunities but because you are a brown dude who was Alladin you expect to be handed roles. When I watched Aladdin all I thought was 'oh they chose the wrong guy this dude ain't it'. Apparently filmmakers agree.

This isn’t a way to get the audition.

Actors have said similar things on the podcast after big roles for Showtime, Hbo, AMC, etc. They thought that 'would be the role that unlocked the rest of their career.' You have to keep advocating for yourself. No one will do it for you.

What?! Will Smith can't hook him up?!

He was like really bad in Aladdin so I'm not really surprised

yep, I had one of those non-dandelion moments today.. Keep on keepin' on, Mena 👌

That’s unprofessional behavior

Maybe he wouldn't have those issues if his performance wasn't awful, insipid, and bland

He’s struggling, while NaomiScott is out there trying to saving franchises, PowerRangers CharliesAngels Aladdin

to be honest he wasn't that great in Aladdin. He is a great dancer, sure, but acting wise eeeeh. But it's still sad.

What actor doesn’t have a hard time getting roles? This guy just wants to spark fake outrage on social media to earn victim status and pulling the race card. Some actors aren’t good enough for longevity, others are.

Boo fking hoo. Kids are starving and abused and we're supposed to care about his career choice

What he's saying is 'There's so much more to me 🎵'

He was super boring as Aladdin

Good.

Has Jasmine gotten offers?

This is the struggle of being a MENA actor. We all go to the same auditions to land one role that comes every blue moon. As an Egyptian, I always see the same faces in the room. I’ll never forget auditioning for an Egyptian role, then seeing a blond Israeli model getting it

he needs Rami Malek's agent.

Let's be honest here. It's because he looks like he's about to suicide bomb a downtown mall. That kinda image isn't marketable in the west that struggles with terrorism everyday. It's wrong but it's the world we live in.

I guess he needs a new agent.

Neither has Scott Weinger.

o boohoo

MenaMassoud Awww. Poor baby. And here I am a white, male, heterosexual Christian conservative with a SAG card for 20 years and have been blacklisted for the reasons posted.

Poor rich movie star. Can’t someone help him?

Omg I feel this in my bones!!! We’re always told “oh this gig is gonna make you more visible, get you more work” and when it doesn’t, we’re left with heartbreak, confusion and a lack of trust in a community we’ve put our faith in.

Aladdin doesn’t means suddenly everyone wants you as their leading actor. I’m just saying.

Maybe he just needs to change his agent.

That’s really sad...as an Egyptian actor, he should’ve been cast in the upcoming Death on the Nile movie, the sequel to Murder on the Orient Express. The movie takes place in Egypt, and yet there’s not a single Egyptian in the cast! 🙄😑

Sorry, bro. But you were in 'Aladdin' (2019).

You gotta feel for him.

A lesson to all of us - choose your words wisely. I understand he is voicing his discontent. However, to me, this bears very similar shades to Constance Wu’s venting through Twitter. Basically, he is saying, “I’ve been acting 10 years! The CD didn’t even know my name!”

Shame. He was the best thing about that movie

Yikes

I haven’t worked since moving to Florida

Maybe this will influence other actors to stop taking those remake roles so we can leave well enough alone and Disney can go back to making original content.

The fuck about Reprisal tho?

Yeah, he's living life on the streets and even needing to steal food to survive

Yikes 😬
