How will TheIrishman's arrival on Netflix affect the Thanksgiving box office?

debuted to $34.2 million at the U.S. box office over the five-day Christmas Day holiday on its way to grossing $392 million globally and landing numerous top Oscar nominations.is bypassing a traditional theatrical release and instead will debut on Netflix on Nov. 27, the start of the lucrative Thanksgiving frame.

Others disagree. "It's not an all or nothing proposition," says box office analyst Paul Dergarabedian of Comscore, noting that families and friends spending Thanksgiving together "need to leave the house" at some point. The National Association of Theater Owners, the lobbying organization for exhibitors, points to an Ernst & Young study finding that those who stream frequently are also the most frequent moviegoers. Across all demos, the January 2019 survey showed that those who visited a theater once or twice in the preceding 12 months watched an average of seven hours of streaming per week, compared to 11 hours of streaming for those who visited a theater nine or more times.El Camino, which was viewed 25.

Nothing like watching a tired old man’s movie staring tired old actors telling the “human condition” of tired old mobsters. 😴😴😴

Seriously, if this movie had been in theaters it would have bombed. It's easily more than 90 minutes too long and without a single interesting or sympathetic character. It's only redeeming quality was the implication that Jimmy Hoffa was possibly a pedophile.

Lol this article is a reach, people who want to go to the cinema that weekend will - the fact that TheIrishman is on Netflix means that people can watch it whenever they want. That’s the point!

Unfortunately, I'll never see it until it hits syndication.

Hard to believe it was not In cinemas

Should have been in the cinemas. Very pathetic

Oh boy! A THR stupid question tweet for Thanksgiving! A holiday (not) miracle!

😂 3hr 40 mins seriously? This won’t make a lot $ in theatrical release and please don’t comprise the avenger endgame because both are way different

Who cares?

A 3hr 40m movie would never have dominated the box office, no matter how good it is.

Vertigo and The Searchers are better movies than The Godfather movies or anything Scorsese ever did.

It’s a Wonderful Life and Spider-Man 2 are much better than any gangster movie and any Scorsese movie!!! So are Pixar’s Up, Toy Story movies or its original The Incredubles!

It’s just a gangster movie. Superhero movies are lots more fun and just as artistic!!!! A great romantic comedy is also more fun and better cinema. Or go watch a John Ford western, Shane, Red River, or Rio Bravo. Stop slobbering over Scorsese!

No. It won’t

who cares? It’s only using the theatrical run as a box tick for an oscar consideration TheIrishman

No

Was so so... I tried to love it! ... watched “Raging Bull” yesterday as well... not even in the same ballpark...

I saw it in a large theatre that had a balcony - it was well worth it. There is one key advantage to seeing it at home and on Netflix: the film does NOT have an intermission, so you can break it up as you will. To see it all at once, if you can, is worth it.

I think that's the point. Maybe if Charlie's Angels had gone to Netflix, more people would have watched it. No one wants to pay $12 to see crap, but they may watch it for a laugh on Netflix.

Yes ofc since nothing good coming in theaters till 2020.

His best film.

It won’t. There’ll be lots of people going to the multiplex this weekend. If anything, studios should worry if the incoming weather will mess up any chances of their movies’ success.

Don't think netflix gives a toss. It's their film they can do what they like.

Well, kids won’t be rushing to their TVs to watch The Irishman. Frozen2 will gross $70-90M over the next 5 days.

two titans of the movies of the last 50 years - definitely need to put this one on my list.
